This year, the Quitman Chamber of Commerce is being revamped with a new executive director and new board directors with the idea of featuring goals and new events to improve community relationships.

Chamber Chairwoman Alayna Moffett expressed excitement about the Chamber continuing to grow and provide businesses with improvements and community involvement with the use of social media platforms, the chamber website, and public platforms.

“I am very blessed to have such a great team this year,” Moffett said. “With our new and current board of directors, and motivated Executive Director [Elizabeth Neuens], the chamber is building a strong foundation for our current business members. more
With an uptick in investment income and rebounding oil prices, the Meredith Foundation was able to boost its support to 13 recipients of grant funds in 2019, according to Foundation President Lou Wagner.

The Foundation, started by Harry W. Meredith in 1958, awarded grants totaling $1.36 million this year compared with $1.24 million last year.

Two of the Foundation’s largest beneficiaries are the City of Mineola and the Mineola Independent School District. Records show the City of Mineola receiving $282,950 in grant funds this year and the school district being awarded $203,779.
