Mineola man receives a big surprise; daughter he didn’t know gets big prize
Mike Love got the surprise of his life recently when he found out through a reality TV show that he has a grown daughter. Dashae Pardon had been adopted at five days old by loving parents and been raised well, but after giving birth to her son, she had a longing to find her biological family.

Swarm wins area soundly
The Mineola, Quitman, and Winnsboro high school bands competed at the Conference 3A Area C marching contest held at Carthage High School Stadium on Saturday.
Mineola’s Sound of the Swarm marching band won the competition, earning a trip to San Antonio where they will defend their state championship title Nov. 6. more

A trip down memory lane for the Gateway
A mainstay of Wood County is being demolished. Brick by brick, board by board, Gateway Lanes in Mineola is being torn down to make way for an ABC Parts store and warehouse. Some say it’s progress, but most feel that it’s a great loss.

Mineola neighbors welcome first responders
At this year’s Texans Against Crime event last Tuesday, Mineola community members came together to show appreciation for Wood County law enforcement and first responders. Three gatherings were planned for the evening, with participants making their rounds to enjoy the fellowship and food.

Body builder overcomes hurdles to win award at national event
Lori Vick, a Mineola native, is conquering life, brokenness, autoimmune symptoms and more through fitness. In August, at 51 years old, she went to National Bodybuilding Competition in Pittsburgh and brought home second place in Women’s Physique.
