As Wood County cases of COVID-19 neared the 100 mark, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statewide face mask order on Thursday, July 2.

As a result the city of Mineola canceled its planned July 4 fireworks show at the Mineola Civic Center. more

The Wood County Monitor offices will be closed Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.

“I am a big believer in the prestige of this ceremony,” shared Alba-Golden principal Michael Mize, from a stage in the middle of Alba-Golden stadium Thursday evening.

“It may be a heat index of 102, it may be miserable for us right now standing out here, but listen, the prestige of this ceremony is not about us, the prestige of this ceremony is about these graduates.” The ceremony to follow honored them, which was not always a certainty this spring. more

Mineola High School

Against a backdrop of coronavirus protocols, the Mineola High School Class of 2020 took its final walk Friday night at Meredith Memorial Stadium.

Like their fellow classmates around the nation, the class was robbed of the last two and a half months of its senior year but did get to enjoy a modified version of a live graduation ceremony as restrictions began to ease starting in May. more

Mineola, Alba-Golden planning live, restricted ceremonies for graduation

With new guidance from the governor and the Texas Education Agency last week, Mineola ISD announced last Wednesday afternoon that an outdoor graduation ceremony is planned Friday, June 5 at 8 p.m. at Meredith Memorial Stadium, with an alternate weather date of June 6. more

First county case confirmed; schools closing until May 4

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Wood County on Tuesday afternoon by county Emergency Management Coordinator Tully Davidson. The patient was being treated at UT Health in Quitman and became ill through community spread. more

Voter registration deadline Monday

Monday, Feb. 3 is the final day to register to vote in the March 3 party primaries in Texas.

That is also the last day to make any address changes. more
