Letter to the Editor

As a senior in Mineola High School, I am very hurt and concerned by the recent change within our school board. There may be things that I don’t understand, but I would like to reiterate how much this affects me and the community.

Dr. Tunnell has been here for my class since the beginning of our high school career. She was the first superintendent to make an impact on us in a long time. She is the superintendent that we saw at every single sport event, induction ceremony, band competition, and any other thing that involved the students on a Mineola campus.

Alba-Golden ISD property owners to see savings

Alba-Golden ISD school board members voted unanimously to lower the district’s tax rate from last year’s rate Monday night. The tax rate for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year was set at $1.1276 which is lower than last year’s rate of $1.23. The full board of trustees, including Jason Stovall, Johnny Teel, Jackie Staley, Joe Carr, Mike Ragsdale, Chad Daily and Dwayne Thompson, were in attendance for the vote. more

Mineola school board, superintendent part ways

Mineola ISD school board members voted 5-1 to accept the resignation of Superintendent Kim Tunnell at a special called meeting Thursday night.

Board member Jill Quiambao cast the dissenting vote against accepting the resignation while Glenn Dossett, Daniel Louderman, Jay McGough and Jackie Rodieck voted in favor. Dr. Kyle Gully was absent from the meeting.

In her letter, Tunnell stated her resignation would be effective Jan. 31, 2020, or upon her receiving a position at another school district. Tunnell was not present at the meeting. more

Alba-Golden ISD scores a “B” grade

MISD achieves B rating; elementary rated as “F”

Overall, the Mineola Independent School District saw gains in the Texas Education Agency (TEA) report card accountability ratings, scoring a B for the district as a whole. The district’s overall score of 85 is up from the 83 it posted the previous year. Since 2017, the district’s overall rating has improved 16 points. more

Quitman ISD just misses an “A” state rating
