Alba-Golden graduates enter new life stage

Forty-nine graduates of Alba-Golden High School concluded their public school education, which was 12 years in the making, as they collected their diplomas the night of May 31 at Wagstaff Gymnasium in Tyler.

The evening belonged to the happy graduates and their proud families, who lingered in the warm night air, long after the red mortar board caps were flung, for congratulatory hugs, high-fives and photographs.

High School Principal Michael Mize said he was “inspired and excited” about the future of the Alba-Golden Class of 2019 before certifying that every one of them had completed the necessary coursework to earn a diploma. more

Quitman Class of 2019 makes its final walk

Sixty-two Quitman graduates walked across the stage in Delbert Ballard Gym from high school into adulthood last Friday night. The night featured speeches and celebrations from faculty, family and friends.

Quitman High School Principal Dana Hamrick told the graduates that life is often like the rehearsal they went through the day before the ceremony. There will be bumps in the road, but “in the end, we stick with it.”

She advised them to know who you are, what your purpose is, know who and what is in front or behind you and always find your joy in life. “I’m proud of you,” Hamrick said. “I wish you all the best.”

As a class, the graduates have earned over $1.15 million in scholarships and financial aid awards. more

Dobbs and Danner earn top spots for Quitman Class of 2019

Quitman High School’s 2019 valedictorian is Abby Dobbs. Dobbs has played on the volleyball, basketball, golf and cheer teams. She’s involved in Student Council, Interact Club, and National Honor Society (NHS).

She will attend Texas A&M University in the fall to major in animal science. She plans to become a veterinarian. She is the daughter of David and Michelle Dobbs. more

Bizzell and Kumm head of the class at Alba-Golden High School

Valedictorian for the Alba-Golden High School Class of 2019 is Madison Grace Bizzell. She is the daughter of Sean and Deitra Bizzell and will be attending Texas A&M University at College Station in the fall.

Throughout high school Bizzell has competed and represented Alba-Golden in five varsity sports. As a varsity cheerleader she was selected each year as an NCA All American. In basketball, she was selected 1st Team All-District all four years of high school, named A-G MVP, and selected to the All-Region team her senior year. She was selected Academic All-State in basketball and softball. Not only was Grace a member and officer of the National Honor Society, Key Club, FCCLA, and FCA, but she also represented the graduating class as an officer throughout high school. more

Quitman HS health science program prepares students for careers, college

In this school year alone, Quitman High School health science students have earned 108 career certifications. Additionally, they’ve gained invaluable hands-on experience at local medical facilities and some are ready for jobs out of high school.

Under the guidance of teacher Brittany Emerson, students start as sophomores and gradually become more knowledgeable by the time they graduate.

“The health science program its whole purpose is to get kids interested in the medical field, help them get some certifications prior to entering the medical field and just help them get a plan to where they want to go after high school,” Emerson said. more

Bright futures await

A total of 108 young men and women entered a new phase of life Friday night during Mineola High School’s commencement at Meredith Memorial Stadium.

The evening was filled with hugs and smiles and tears, bittersweet farewells, light-hearted memories, words of wisdom, encouragement and feelings of accomplishment. The home crowd bleachers were nearly full with family and well-wishers.

Mineola High School Principal David Sauer looked out at the seniors assembled in chairs in front of him and told them “You are the reason we are all here tonight.” more
