It was an instant classic. In fact, the entire home and away 2019 varsity basketball series between Edgewood and Mineola was a classic.

Despite taking the lead for the first time in last Tuesday’s game with 27 seconds to play, Mineola fell short at the Edgewood gymnasium in their final district game, 45-44. The Edgewood squad took revenge after Mineola had handed them their only district loss of the season back on Jan. 18, a 49-48 overtime thriller. more

As third-place finishers in District 11-3A, the Tigers were outmatched in every facet of the game. The Lady Jackets demonstrated superior basketball acumen, physical skill and organization. more

For the season, the Mineola eighth-grade A team has defeated 5A school Marshall and Hallsville at the Hallsville tournament in December. On Jan. 28, they defeated 4A Tyler Chapel Hill 43-32.  They will wrapped up district play on Monday, Feb. 11 in Quitman before competing in the district tournament in Grand Saline on Saturday, Feb. 16, where they hope to repeat as district champs. more
