Rains edges Quitman in five

It was a roller coaster ride of emotions and volleyball action at Rains Friday afternoon. When the smoke cleared, the Lady Bulldogs lost in five sets to the Lady ‘Cats 25-18, 24-26, 25-14, 25-18, 6-15. The loss puts Quitman at 2-1 in District 12-3A play with road trips to Alba-Golden Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m. and Edgewood Saturday at 11 a.m. more

Three area schools host their gridiron district openers Friday. Harmony travels to Alba-Golden, Mineola faces off against West Rusk and Arp comes to Quitman. There was the parade, the pep rally, the pre-game ceremony naming Whitnee Weiher queen and Nicholas Barnett king and the American flag and game ball dropped in by skydivers. County squads gain experience at Tyler tournament

Alba-Golden head volleyball coach Jamie Webster summed it up best before her Lady Panthers took the court for their initial match of the Tyler ISD volleyball tournament. “We are here to learn how to compete,” she stated earnestly.

Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman teams all realized huge benefits from the tourney which featured the absolute best teams from East Texas and beyond. There were no weak teams at the tourney. more
