Wood County commissioners last week approved the Bassmaster host agreement for the four-day Toyota Bassmaster Texas Fest at Lake Fork in May.

The agreement between Bassmaster and Wood County spells out the host’s responsibilities. As a part of the contract, Wood County Industrial Commission will pay a host fee of $65,000 to Bassmaster.

Addendums to the agreement were made to share the cost with the Quitman Development Corp. (QDC), City of Emory and Lake Fork Chamber of Commerce as co-sponsors of the event. QDC, on behalf of the City of Quitman, agreed to contribute $10,000. Lake Fork Chamber agreed to contribute $5,000. City of Emory, on behalf of the tourism department, agreed to contribute $10,000. more

The Mineola Yellowjackets soccer team continued its winning ways with a 2-1 victory March 5 against the visiting Cumberland Academy Knights. Mineola made great use of the few offensive opportunities they generated, and held off significant Cumberland pressure throughout the night. more

Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman baseball and softball teams took advantage of the tournament season this past weekend as they prepare for district openers. The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers softball team was the only idle team this weekend, although they have recorded a 9-0 season start. They started district play at 5 p.m. Tuesday March 5 at Rains. more
The Alba-Golden baseball team joined a field of five local schools at the Third Annual Tim Crowder Invitational Baseball Tournament this past weekend. Over three days the Panthers earned victories over John Tyler and Cumberland Academy. more
