After a 4-2 district record earning them second place in the UIL Class 3A Region 2 District 7, 18 All District awards were earned by Mineola Yellowjacket football players in 2017.
The announcement was made official on Monday when Head Coach Luke Blackwell contacted the Monitor.
Headlining the All District honors was Cameron Sorenson, Curtis London, and Trevion Sneed.
Sorenson who played receiver, kicker, punter and defensive back for the Jackets won awards in all three phases. He was named Defensive MVP, Special Teams Player of the Year and First Team Wide Receiver.
London who played running back, defensive back, and kick returner for the Jackets was voted as Co-Utility MVP, awarded to a player who plays multiple positions at the highest level in the district.
Sneed who played running back and defensive end for the Jackets was awarded the Newcomer of the Year Award annually given to the district’s best first-year varsity player.
Six Jackets made First Team All District; quarterback Shaw Franklin, offensive linemen Cameron Wise and Seth Kirk, receiver Cameron Sorenson, linebacker Preston Lankford and defensive back Dalton Rodgers.
Six Jackets made Second Team all District; offensive linemen Chandler Price, receiver Cody Ford, receiver Cameron Bowman and defensive linemen Alex Evans, Jacob Hurst and Ian Thompson.
Standout sophomore defensive backs Wiley Franks and Cole Castle Berry earned honorable mention awards.
While the Jacket performed well in district on the field they did so just as well in the classroom as 10 Jacket players were awarded Academic All District. Those 10 athletes included Cameron Sorenson, Dalton Harris, Cole Castleberry, Elias Dabbs, Shawmon Franklin, Wiley Franks, Jacob Hurst, Chandler Price, Dalton Rogers and Zane Bedford.
