A Fantasy Christmas parade planned in Quitman

The Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club is presenting this year’s Christmas parade Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. with the theme “A Fantasy Christmas.”

The parade route will begin at Quitman High School and end at Jim Hogg City Park. Parade entrants will begin assembling at 2:30 p.m. in the designated areas of the back of the high school campus. Everyone needs to enter from the east end of the high school off Highway 154. Kiwanis club members will be on hand to direct the entrants.

If a float has children, they must be supervised by an adult to and from their float. There will be only one live Santa Claus who will be riding on the Quitman Fire Department fire truck. No other Santa is allowed to be part of the parade.

Judging of the floats will begin at 3:15 p.m. Those entrants who wish to be considered for judging must be in the designated area and ready for judging by 3:15 p.m.

First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded and the winners are encouraged to display their ribbons on their entry throughout the parade.

Horse, pony, donkey and mule entries must be prepared to show proof of a negative Coggins test from within the past 12 months.

Since it is a daytime parade, the Kiwanis have asked if you throw candy from your entry to please throw so it lands completely off the roadway. The Quitman Police Department asked that candy be packaged into small baggies so they may be thrown further and to limit the number of candy pieces spread on the road.

In case of inclement weather the parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. Parade participants will be notified of any cancellations or changes. For more information email fire@quitmantx.org. Entry forms can be mailed to City of Quitman, Attn: Christmas Parade, PO Box 1855, Quitman Tx. 75783 or drop off at city hall.
