A-G girls, boys win Edgewood Relays

Alba-Golden and Quitman track teams excelled at the Edgewood Relays on March 7. The Lady Panthers took first place with the Lady Bulldogs a close second.

In the boys division, Alba-Golden tied for first place with Grand Saline. The Quitman boys varsity finished in fourth.

In addition to the four named schools, Fruitvale and Millers Grove also participated.

Quitman’s Madalyn Spears won both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, in times of 12.92 and 27.74 seconds, respectively. Lady Bulldog Jazmin Rojas joined Spears with a third place finish in the 200 meter.

Gracie Teel of Alba-Golden took the 400 meter dash in 1:07.96. Lady Bulldog Lexie Wilson finished third. Teel also scored a second place finish in the 800 meter run. Quitman’s Cristal Plata earned a third place in the 800.

Joanna Santiago and Cristina Ramirez of Quitman secured the second and third places in the 1600 meter run. Quitman’s Brooklyn Marcee won the 100 meter hurdles while Alba-Golden’s Bella Crawford won the 300 meter hurdles. In the 100 meter hurdles Samantha Rambsel secured second place and Crawford third. Rambsel also finished in third place of the 300 meter hurdles.

Edgewood won all three sprint relays with Quitman finishing second in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200, and third in the 4 x 400. Alba-Golden secured third in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200, and second in the 4 x 400.

Lady Panther Lizzie Hallman flew 14’-9” to win the long jump. Quitman’s Brooklyn Marcee finished second. Alba-Golden’s Kalli Wright propelled the shot 31’-7.5” to win the shot put. Quitman’s Delaney Flanagan scored third place in the shot put, and teammate Maddy Whitehurst secured second in the discus.

All-round athletes Hallman and Rambsel were awarded first and second in the triple jump, while Ginny Carson, Grace Bizzell and Kadence Thompson swept the high jump competition. Quitman’s Marcee secured first in the pole vault.

In the boys division, Alba-Golden’s Zane Smith walked away with blue ribbons in the triple jump (41-1) and high jump (5-10), while teammate Chris Chabaud scored first place with an 11-foot pole vault. Quitman’s Dylan Cole recorded first place points for a long jump of 19 feet. With a time of 23.58, Jon-Michael Chadwick gave Alba-Golden the win in the 200 meter dash.

Several local athletes placed second and third in their events. For Alba-Golden: Austin Hartley third in the 100 meter dash; Michael Kumm third in the 400 meter dash and second in pole vault; Joey Beck third in the 800 and 1600 meter runs; Zane Smith second in the 110 meter hurdles; Chris Chabaud third in the 100 meter hurdles and second in the 300 meter hurdles; Matt Rogers third in the 300 meter hurdles; Jon-Michael Chadwick second in the long jump and third in triple jump; Hayden Weissert second in triple jump. Alba-Golden took third place in all three sprint relays.

Quitman finished second place in the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 sprint relays. Bulldog Hunter Huggins earned a third place finish in the shot put.
