A-G, Quitman tennis players advance to regionals
The Edgewood Bulldogs dominated the district tennis tournament held April 3 at Edgewood High School. Ten Edgewood athletes will compete at the regional tennis tourney April 17-18 at Tyler Junior College.
Bulldogs Tanner Patterson and Alison Simmons won the boys and girls singles titles, respectively. Alba-Golden’s William Hartin also advanced to regionals by securing second place in the boys singles field. Caroline Jones of Lone Oak, who secured a second place, will join Simmons in the regional girls singles meet.
Edgewood’s Tabitha Parker and Madlyn Bachtel secured first place in the girls doubles competition. Teammates Abigail Wilcoxson and Meredith Baker also reserved their place at regionals with a second-place finish. Mixed doubles teams of Shannon Baker and Nicholas Prestidge, and Trey McPherson and Addison Prater advanced for Edgewood with first- and second-place finishes as well.
Quitman athletes Jeremy Peek and Jacob Day won the boys doubles play.
They will be joined at the regional tourney by Alba-Golden’s second-place boys double team of Byron Wade and Gabe Barnett.
