AG boards set special meeting on superintendent

Longtime Alba-Golden ISD Superintendent Dwayne Ellis appears be on his way out.

The school board has called a special meeting Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in the high school library.

According to the agenda, the board plans to again have a private consultation with its attorney and discuss superintendent contract negotiations. They have left the possibilities of action open with three options:

  1. Discussion and possible action concerning selection of attorney for negotiations between board of trustees and superintendent.
  2. Discussion and negotiation regarding superintendent contract with possible action for separation agreement.
  3. Discussion and possible action on appointment of an interim superintendent.

In a closed session in January, the board discussed Ellis’ evaluation and contract but postponed a decision to extend or deny. The open forum became heated when residents and teachers defended Ellis.

The next week, the board consulted with its attorney in a special meeting, but no action was taken.

Neither Ellis nor board President Jason Stovall have responded to requests for comments.
