The annual Hooked on Fishing youth tournament in Wood County is planned Saturday, June 1 at the Sabine River Authority headquarters.

Registration is free and includes a meal for children 16 and younger. Those seven and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The headquarters can be found on FM 288 between State Hwy. 154 and State Hwy. 182.

The tournament gets under way at 8 a.m. and runs until noon. Contestants must be registered by 8 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish in each category and age group.

Sponsors include the Wood County Sheriff’s Dept., Texas Parks and Wildlife and the river authority.

All fish must be caught on a pole or rod and reel. Contestants will be instructed on legal lengths and limits.

Fish may be brought to the weigh station at any time in the provided bags, with final weigh-in at noon. Tournament is catch-and-release, and participants are encouraged to bring cameras to record their catches.

For more information contact the Wood County Sheriff’s Dept. at 903-763-2201 or the game wardens. Registration form may be found on the county website at mywoodcounty.com and includes volunteer opportunities for adults.
