Alba council sets swearing in date
Alba’s new mayor and city council members will be sworn in on the first available date.
The city council rescheduled its May meeting from May 3 to May 10, the first date that entities can canvass ballots, so that the unopposed candidates can be sworn in.
Don Heinert will be the new mayor and Debbie Shaddox and Tammy Kelbe will join the council.
The council appointed Tim Koonce, former police chief, to serve on the Alba Economic Development Corp. board.
City Secretary Lindy McCarty added the role of associate municipal judge. She will be called upon primarily for weekend arraignments so that the municipal judge, who lives elsewhere, will not have to make the trip.
The council authorized submission of the Texas Community Development Block Grant application. The city will be seeking funds for street improvements.
