Alba-Golden ends season with big win
The Alba-Golden Panthers ended the season with a big 55-35 win over Frankston Friday night. Senior Zane Smith and the Panther defense went out with a bang.
Smith passed for three scores totaling 217 yards through the air and scored one touchdown on a run. The Panthers had 378 yards rushing for an offensive total of 595 yards for the contest.
“I was really happy with the way our kids played. They have been working really hard and it has paid off. We are disappointed we did not make the playoffs, but we are proud of going 5-4 on the year,” Head Coach Derek Smith said. “We were just a few points away from being in the playoffs, but that is just how it goes. We had a good year and we have some good kids coming back next year.”
Boedie Baker rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown while Jon Michael Chadwick ran for another 101 yards and a pair of scores. The Panthers ended the year at 5-4 and 3-4 in district 10-3A DII just one game behind Winona in the playoff chase. Other teams from the district going to the playoffs are district champion Harmony, Troup and Grand Saline.
