The Quitman Lady Bulldogs finished their season on a roll with wins over Eustace and Edgewood in their final two games of the season. Quitman beat Eustace 12-2 last Monday and followed with a heart-stopping 5-4 win over Edgewood in the season finale.

Coach Chris Veach was proud of the Lady Bulldog effort. “I am so proud of the way we fought back against Edgewood. After falling behind early, the girls really stepped up to the challenge. This was a very important win for these kids and a great confidence booster going into next season,” Veach noted. “We got pitching from Hannah Baucom and got key hits when we needed them. We will really miss our seniors, but this was a perfect way to send them out of their last game at QHS. I know we may not be heading into post season, but the strides we have made this season are amazing! I love this group of kids!

Against Edgewood, Quitman fell behind 4-0 after two innings and closed the gap to 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. They scored four runs in the fifth to go ahead 5-4 and then held off Edgewood in their final two at-bats.

The Lady Bulldogs got singles from Madalyn Spears, Shelby Hayes, Shayla Smith, Shelby Bettis and Kendal Wiley. Spears also had a run scored and two RBI for the game.

In the 12-2 romp over Eustace, senior Brittany Walls got the win on the mound for Quitman and she also had a 2-4 night at the plate two singles, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Quitman had a 6-2 lead after four innings and scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take home a win by the 10-run rule.

Spears led the offensive charge with a 3-4 night, two runs scored, two stolen bases and three RBI. Wylie, Hayes and Baucom each had a single in the winning effort.

“We played a good game against Eustace. We got good pitching from Brittany Walls and good hitting at key times in the game,” Veach said. “It was really nice to see us get the bats make some noise.”
