Alba-Golden post play helps Panthers grab 65-41 victory

When Alba-Golden senior post Jacob Dailey is the leading scorer for the Panthers, everyone knows the Panthers had a great game. Dailey tallied 21 points and fellow post Boedy Baker chipped in 14, as Alba-Golden dominated the Lone Oak Buffaloes 65-41 Saturday afternoon.

Inside scoring and offensive rebounding are strengths of the Panthers’ squad. Those two factors are excellent indicators on their state of play, regardless of opponent. Dailey and Baker controlled the paint against the Buffaloes. In addition to combining for 35 points, their strong inside game complimented the slashing drives of Jon-Michael Chadwick, who finished with 15 points.

Alba-Golden used high-energy pressure to quickly take the early lead. The Panthers managed 19 points in the first quarter and scored in practically all ways possible: off the press, offensive put-backs, set plays, baseline drives, short jumpers and one Hayden Weissert 3-pointer.

The pressure continued in the second quarter. Alba-Golden did most of the scoring inside. Baker also had two beautiful assists, one to Will Hartin and one to Dailey, on consecutive trips down the court. At the half the score stood 34-14.

The Panthers were not about to let the Buffaloes back in the game. The third period was a showcase for Alba-Golden as they outscored the visitors 23-9. Midway through the quarter, Dailey scored on a very nice left-handed pivot move.

With the game decided, the fourth quarter devolved into a lot of meaningless end-to-end action. The Panthers secured an excellent win. They minimized errors, played strong team ball, and were able to capitalize on opportunities as they arose. It was a quality win.
