Alba-Golden quarantines high school football, volleyball teams

There will be no varsity football nor varsity and JV volleyball for Alba-Golden High School for the next two weeks.

The district announced late Thursday that a 14-day quarantine for students in those programs would begin Friday, Sept. 25, and those varsity students may return to campus Friday, Oct. 9. JV volleyball return date is Oct. 6.

The district football games scheduled for Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 will have to be rescheduled. The district committee recently revised the football schedule to allow for two open dates Oct. 22 and Oct. 28.

Just last Monday the district had reported it had no positve cases of COVID-19, but on Tuesday afternoon the district first announced a high school student with a positive test followed shortly by an announcement about a staff member.

Then Thursday the district announced an elementary student had tested positive.

Two additional cases have been reported among high school students.

The school had also postponed its planned homecoming Sept. 25 until Oct. 16.
