Constitution week begins Sept. 17
The week of Sept. 17 has been officially designated as "Constitution Week," according to Quitman City Mayor J.R. Evans.
The mayor presented a proclamation to the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution that declared the dates of Sept. 17 - 23 to be Constitution Week. According to the proclamation, "September 17, 2013 marks the two hundred twenty-sixth anniversary of the framing of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention."
According to the official document, the proclamation is intended to bestow official recognition upon this "magnificent document and its memorable anniversary." In addition, public law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States.
The proclamation ended with a call to action, by asking all citizens to "reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties."
