Alba-Golden sweeps Crossroads

In the best setting match of the year, the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers defeated Crossroads (25-21, 25-12, 25-6) in Alba-Golden Friday night. Kayli Covey’s consistent setting resulted in numerous kills from teammates Kaylee Anglin, Crimson Bryant and Kalli Wright. It was the most promising offensive attack that the Lady Panthers have staged yet this year.

The home side got off to a great start, opening a 13-8 lead. The initial surge was fueled by an excellent service game of several Lady Panthers.

Four unforced errors let Crossroads back in the game. The game was tied at 21 before the Lady Panthers rallied for the win. A Cacie Lennon ace, a Wright drop shot and another Lennon ace secured game one.

One outcome of a good setting game is the number of opportunities presented to the front line attackers. This was evident in game two, as Anglin, Bryant and Wright hammered kill attempt after kill attempt at the visitors.

Wright spiked a beautiful shot to her right while fading away to her left. Anglin contributed three straight aces in the game’s end stage.

Crossroads had had enough by game three. The Lady Panthers’ activity and shot velocity had taken its toll. Of note, Autumn Whitten contributed six aces in the lopsided game-three win.
