Paulette Aguilar

Paulette Aguilar, agriculture science teacher at Quitman ISD, has been named a College of Agriculture & Natural Resources 2020 Ambassador for Texas A&M University-Commerce.

She completed her bachelor’s degree in agriculture sciences and technology with a teacher’s certification from A&M-Commerce in 2011.

Paulette has served as a teacher and FFA advisor for seven years. She has helped her teams excel at multiple events including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Ag Product ID Senior Championship.

Her students have placed at state competition for extemporaneous speaking, public relations and farm business management.

One of her student teams earned the state championship for farm business management.

Paulette grew up in Mineola and is a first-generation student of higher education. She is a product of the American dream as a first-generation student of immigrant parents. She grew up on a dairy farm and Limousin cattle ranch.

Paulette was introduced to agriculture, her passion, by her ag teacher, East Texas State University alumnus Glen Dossett.

From Dossett, she learned that agriculture consisted of much more than production agriculture, and this changed her life.

While she was a student at A&M-Commerce, Paulette was involved in collegiate FFA, served as an officer for Women’s Ag Society and was a department ag ambassador.

She also worked for the Department of Agriculture as a youth liaison for the Breaking Barriers Grant that promoted agriculture education to Hispanic adults around the community, specifically Hunt County.

When she isn’t teaching, Paulette can be found traveling, binging Netflix and talking about anything and everything Star Wars.
