Fall can’t come soon enough after a hot Texas summer, and neither can the yard sale at the Wood County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

The beloved shopping adventure is set to unfold Sept. 28, giving eager bargain hunters an excuse to get up early and check out the goodies.

The sale is set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the grounds of the arboretum, 175 Governor Hogg Pkwy, behind Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman.

“We’re going to have a great sale,” said Deanna Caldwell, president of Friends of the Arboretum, which oversees the grounds. “It’s just going to be so much fun. Really, there is probably something for just about everyone.”

The sale is expected to feature oodles of good buys, from unique antiques and vintage collectibles to modern household, artwork, and sporting goods. The array of merchandise features something for shoppers of all ages and interests.

“Proceeds from this event will benefit the Arboretum and the many projects we do, such as caring for the Stinson House,” said garden manager Lin Grado. “We appreciate the community coming out to support us.”

The 150-year-old Stinson House is in the heart of the 23-acre arboretum, which also features walking trails, specialty gardens and tribute memorials.

Other cool weather events on the horizon this season at the arboretum include the fall plant sale, set for Oct. 19, and holiday open house, Dec. 12.
