Billy Lee Hughes 1943-2023

Services for Billy Lee Hughes, 79, of Golden were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba, with Bro. Grady Dollar officiating.

Interment followed in Golden City Cemetery.

Mr. Hughes passed away April 30, 2023 at his residence in Golden. He was born July 16, 1943 in Golden to Ernest Lee and Frances Amanda McQueen Hughes. Billy was a lifelong resident of Golden. He married Jo Ann Nahrstedt in Golden on Aug. 19, 1981. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman/conductor and retired after 43 years of service. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 37 years, Jo Ann Hughes; brother, Bob Hughes; and sisters, Francine Butler and Anna Joyce Owens.

Survivors include his son, Ernest Hughes and wife Shubo of Lindale; daughter, Jennifer Wigington and husband Shayne of Mineola; two brothers, Mike Hughes and wife Joanna of Golden and Sam Hughes and wife Madelyn of Mineola; sister-in-law, Margie Hughes of Golden; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The family received friends at 1p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
