Quitman power lifters do well at Winnsboro meet

Quitman High School boys power lifting team finished 7th out of nine schools with a total of eight points at the Winnsboro power lifting meet last Thursday held at the old Rock Gym.

Paris won the overall meet with 48 points followed by Longview Spring Hill with 36 and Winnsboro in 3rd with 32 points.

Individual results for Quitman included Angel Ross, 5th place in the 132 class with 750 pounds, Bobby Wells was 3rd in the Super Heavy Weight class with 1100 pounds lifted, Alec Bates was 4th in the 181 pound class with 995 pounds lifted, and Rosendo Praciado was 4th in the 148 pound class with 915 pounds.

Last Monday in Winnsboro, the Quitman girls finished 4th out of six schools with a total of 15 points.

Winnsboro won the overall meet with 63 points.

Individually Quitman brought home several honors. Paige Henderson placed 3rd in the Heavyweight Division group. She lifted 240 in squat, 125 bench and a 260 dead-lift for a total of 625 pounds lifted. She won the 220-pound class by 60 pounds over Caitlin Bates of Detroit. Vanesa Flores was 3rd in that class with 520 pounds lifted. In the 220+ class, Jamie Winkles took second place with 525 pounds lifted.

Other schools participating in the meet included Mount Pleasant, Paris, Detroit, Harmony.

The next powerlifting meet will be held Saturday, February 16 at the Quitman High School gymnasium.
