In their only game of the week the Hawkins High Lady Hawks varsity volleyball team lost in four sets to the Fruitvale Bobcats last Tuesday.
The Lady Hawks played each set close, while winning one with scores of 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, and 25-20 each game was hotly contested.
“We really have to work harder on our transitions if we want to score more efficiently,” Head coach Terri Boyd said last week.
One of the biggest reasons Boyd said she believes the team has had some struggles this season was not being able to get into position after receiving hits and serves.
“We need more attacks at the net and in order to do that we have to pass consistently and get in to position to approach,”
However a few bright spots throughout the match last week, was junior Jaycee Cheshire who led the Lady Hawks with seven kills, while junior Christian Harris added six kills and Emily Hodges had five kills for the Lady Hawks.
The Lady Hawks also got solid production from their setters as senior Raeli Smith and sophomore Lilly Long combined for 16 assists, 9 from Smith and 7 from Long respectively.
The defense was led by sophomore Alyssa Eddington who had a team high 14 digs, followed by Harlie Conover with 13. Senior Emily Hodges and Smith also picked up 12 digs each.
The Hawkins JV team defeated Fruitvale 25-22 and 25-20.
The varsity team’s record now stands at 4-13 and will play Overton High next at 4:30 p.m. at home.
