The Lady Guards of Brook Hill came to Mineola and swept the Lady Jackets in volleyball pre-district action Aug. 27.

Brook Hill leveraged a disciplined attack and an especially well-tuned service game to stymie the Lady Jackets.

The Lady Guards committed only four service errors all match, and very few miss hits.

Mineola scored the first point of the night when the return of Meghan Brewington’s service went long. Despite registering the first score, the opening game jitters belonged to the Lady Jackets.

Brook Hill opened up a quick 5-1 lead.

Trailing 12-8, Mineola looked primed for a rally. Brook Hill had just given up an easy point on an unforced error.

Brittany Pickle stepped back to serve.

The ensuing volley was one of the longest of the night. It included a beautiful dig by Brewington, but in the end Brook Hill took the service back with an efficiently-executed kill.

Three quick points later, after a block of Valerie Garcia at the net, a nicely-played drop shot, and an unreturnable service, Brook Hill was up 17-8.

Mineola could not close the margin in game one. The Lady Guards took game one, 25-15.

Game two opened on a positive note for the Lady Jackets.

Two early kills by Tahjae Black and one by Sabria Dean knotted the score at 4.

A Brook Hill score after a long volley proved to be an early turning point. The point came after a tremendous block by Black at the net which was saved by the Lady Guards.

Brook Hill catapulted off of that score and doubled the advantage to 16-8.

Kill shots by Dean and Pickle and a combined block by the two Lady Jackets shaped a Mineola mini-rally which closed the score to 18-11.

Brook Hill buckled down to dispatch the Lady Jackets 25-12.

The third game saw eight ties in early action.

The score stood 11-11 with neither team able to retain service.

Mineola was within a point, 16-15, before the visitors surged ahead.

Two aces and two kills in the final moments saw Brook Hill through to the match win.
