Bulldogs fall to Edgewood, defeat Lone Oak
The Quitman Bulldogs fell to Edgewood 13-1 in an away game March 19. The state-ranked Edgewood team put up eight runs in the fourth inning to cement the win.
Each team collected only five base hits on the night. For Quitman, Ben Burroughs and Trey Berry each cracked two hits. Five fielding errors against an aggressive Edgewood team plagued Quitman in the loss.
Quitman rebounded with a decisive victory on Friday, March 22, taking down the Lone Oak Buffaloes in five innings, 11-1. Ben Burroughs tossed a one-hitter and went the complete five innings.
The Bulldogs put up four runs in the bottom of the first and added two in the fourth and five runs in the fifth.
Five Quitman base hits coupled with six Lone Oak fielding errors sewed up the game for the Bulldogs. Coach Jimmy Smith’s Bulldogs picked up their first district win and traveled to Rains on Tuesday, March 26 in an effort to add to the win column.
