The Quitman Bulldogs fell to the Grand Saline Indians 58-48 in action at Grand Saline on Jan. 22. Despite the 10-point margin, the well-played and competitive game was closer than the score suggests.

Both teams were on point at tipoff and played to a 29-29 tie at the half. Quitman received solid play from its entire lineup. Sophomore forward Aiden Corrior made several key plays early, both offensively and defensively. Junior center Luke Pruden scored on an early offensive rebound put-back and chased down a loose ball on a key possession. Junior guard Trey Berry hit two 3-pointers in the half.

The rebounding and turnover stats lines were almost equal at the half. With each team competing hard to exploit their schemes, it was a masterful half of basketball to watch.

The third quarter provided more give-and-take action. The contest would tilt favorably for Grand Saline with 1:43 left in the period and the score notched at 37–37. An alley-oop to the Indians stand-out senior post Jacob Akins and three 3-pointers in quick succession catapulted the Indians into the lead 48-37 at the quarter break.

The sudden scoring binge by Grand Saline was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome in the fourth quarter. Quitman managed to close the gap to eight points at one juncture, but that was as close as the game got. A comeback by the Bulldogs was hard to muster as Grand Saline enjoyed an 8-2 edge in fourth-quarter rebounds.
