The Quitman Bulldogs traveled to the Blue Ridge Tournament and finished with a pair of wins and another pair of close losses.

With the exception of the 67-46 win over Leonard, the Bulldogs were in three close games. They also defeated Farmersville 48-45 and fell to Pottsboro 56-51 and Sanger, also 56-51.

Quitman raced to a 24-7 first quarter lead against Leonard, but the Tigers went on a 17-8 run in the second quarter to close the gap to 32-24 at the half. The Bulldogs used a 35-22 second half to subdue the Tigers for the 21-point win. Levi Thompson scored 29 points with Brady Floyd adding 13.

The Farmersville contest was close the entire game, and the Bulldogs pulled it out in the final quarter. It was a 24-24 game at the half and 30-30 after three quarters. The Bulldogs got 18 to the Farmers’ 15 in the final period to record the win. Hunter Jacobs led Quitman with 11 points followed by Thompson with 10, Floyd seven and Payton Sapp six.

In the loss to Pottsboro the Bulldogs led 31-29 at the half, but the Cardinals went on an 18-8 third quarter run to take a 47-39 lead. The Bulldogs rallied but it was not enough to overcome Pottsboro. Thompson hit 17 points with Floyd scoring eight while Sapp and Ethan Presley had seven each.

In the Sanger loss the Bulldogs built a 19-10 first quarter edge and led 33-23 lead at the half, but the Indians outscored Quitman 18-7 in the third quarter and took a 41-40 lead into  the final quarter. Thompson had 16 and Jacobs 10 points for Quitman.

The Bulldogs are 9-3 on the season and play at Canton Friday.
