Bulldogs have little trouble in victory over Cumby
The Quitman Bulldogs steamrolled past Cumby ripping the Trojans 88-26 last Tuesday at Ballard Gym. The Bulldogs raced to 28-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.
Quitman was led by an outstanding performance from senior Jace Reid who netted 33 points without playing in the final quarter. Trey Berry added 18 points and Rylie Flanagan had his best outing of the year with 17 points and numerous rebounds. Aiden Corrior connected for 13 points to give the Bulldogs four starters in double figures.
Quitman led 3-2 just a minute into the game and then the Bulldog press forced the Trojans into 10 first quarter turnovers. Reid scored 17 points including three treys in the first quarter. Quitman had six three-pointers in that first period leading to the 28-7 margin.
In the second quarter, the steady play of Corrior’s ball handling and pinpoint passing led the way. Reid had nine for the quarter with Corrior adding six, Flanagan five and Berry four to take a 52-19 lead to the lockers at the half.
In the third quarter, Berry harassed Cumby with good defense leading to several steals and easy buckets for the Bulldogs. Berry also hit a pair of 15-foot jump shots from the right side baseline area. The Bulldogs had a 70-20 lead going into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter Flanagan dominated in the paint scoring six straight points to give the Bulldogs an 82-22 cushion. River Chaney followed with a big triple while Ford Tannebaum made a bucket and Ty Holland made a free throw to round out the 88-26 win.
The Bulldogs will be at home this weekend hosting the annual Quitman Varsity Tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday after hosting Big Sandy Tuesday.
