Bulldogs post impressive win over Winona
The Quitman Bulldogs put together a consistent offense and rugged defense to shut down Winona Friday night and win their third district game 80-34 over the visiting Wildcats at Delbert Ballard Memorial Gym.
Winona took its only lead of the night at 2-0, but Quitman came right back as Thomas Sabedra hit 4-4 free throws and Landon Richey out-muscled Winona on the boards to make a shot to give the Bulldogs a 6-2 lead. They would never look back again as the Bulldogs’ pressure defense gave Winona numerous problems, leading the Quitman offense to many scoring opportunities.
After taking a 15-4 lead after one quarter, senior Bulldog Aiden Corrior took over in the second quarter, scoring 10 of Quitman’s 28 points, leading them to a 43-13 advantage. The third quarter was much the same as the Bulldogs continued their high scoring pace with 23 points to just 10 for Winona.
The Bulldogs finished the night with a 14-11 edge in the final quarter for the resounding win. Corrior led Quitman scoring with 18 followed by Brady Floyd’s 15. Quitman also got well-rounded scoring from Sebedra with eight, Noah Emmons and Levi Thompson seven each, Ford Tannebaum six and Jack Tannebaum and Garin Kisinger five each.
After taking on Winnsboro on the road Friday, Quitman travels to Mt. Vernon Feb. 9 and wraps up the season at home against Mineola Feb. 12.
