Bulldogs roll past Winona
The Quitman Bulldogs put on an offensive clinic Friday night in their District 13-3A 73-43 romp over the Winona Wildcats.
Quitman started fast on a Levi Thompson triple with just 12 seconds gone in the first quarter. In fact, Thompson hit for the first 10 Quitman points. The talented junior went on to hit a trio of three-point shots and score 15 of Quitman’s 21 first quarter points as the Bulldogs took a 21-13 lead after one period. Thompson had a game high 29 points.
The Bulldogs continued their barrage of offense in the second quarter scoring 21 points to 11 for Winona, giving Quitman a 42-24 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, ball handling guru Brady Floyd and wing man Thomas Sebedra each had successful three-point shots. Sebedra hit on a pair of triples and Floyd was solid from start to finish hitting for 15 points and had a great defensive game. The Bulldogs added on 21 points again in the third frame to take a 63-35 lead into the final eight minutes.
In the final quarter things got physically rough as the Bulldogs slowed the pace of the game and still outscored the Wildcats 10-8 to give them the 73-43 win.
Ethan Presley hustled after numerous rebounds and scored a pair of buckets in the final quarter. Thompson added a pair of free throws after a technical foul had been given to Winona for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The win gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 record in district play and 13-12 for the year. After a bye on Tuesday, the Bulldogs travel north to Winnsboro Friday to take on a good Red Raider squad that is 2-1 in district and 13-6 on the year.
