Candidate filing closes for city, school elections

The list of candidates for the local city and school board May 4 election is now final. The deadline to file for open seats was Friday, Feb. 15.

Since all races are unopposed, the City of Alba, the City of Mineola and the City of Yantis will not hold an election.

Also, since both races are unopposed, Quitman ISD will not hold an election.

Candidate filing closes for city, school elections

The list of candidates for the local city and school board May 4 election is now final. The deadline to file for open seats was Friday, Feb. 15.

Since all races are unopposed, the City of Alba, the City of Mineola and the City of Yantis will not hold an election.

Also, since both races are unopposed, Quitman ISD will not hold an election.

City Elections

Quitman Mayor David Dobbs and Aldermen Randy Dunn and Brad Medlin are up for election. Alderman J.R. Evans and Dunn have both filed for the mayoral seat.

Four people have filed for the aldermen seats: Dobbs, Medlin, Michael Raney and Arnie Spiers.

Winnsboro Mayor Randy Parish and Alderwomen Joan Morris and Katy Perez are up for election. Parrish has decided not to run for mayor. Camron Wilcox has filed for the mayoral seat. Incumbent Morris has also filed for a council position. Mel Melenberger and Wendy Blake filed for city council seats

School Boards

Hawkins Trustees Ashley Conner, Ed Tunnell and Matthew Dacus are up for election. Conner, Tunnell and Dacus have all filed. Micheline Gipson has also filed.

In Mineola, seats occupied by Kellam Newell and Carlist Brinkley are up for election as well as an open seat.

Glen Dossett, Jo McCarty, Jill Quiambao, Jackie Rodieck, Jim Ruffin and Patricia Wright have filed for the election.

Yantis Trustees Janie Moreland and April Johnson’s seats will be voted on this year. April Johnson, Jennifer Larkin and Jeff Quinn filed for the two positions.

Early voting begins April 22.
