Candidates continue filing for spring primary

The race for Wood County sheriff has heated up as filing continues for the March 3 party primaries.

Two challengers have emerged in the Republican primary for Sheriff Tom Castloo, who is seeking a second term.

Quitman Police Chief Kelly Cole has filed for the position as has James Schaffner.

Contested races have already developed for district judge, district attorney and Prec. 3 constable.

District Judge Jeff Fletcher faces Brad McCampbell, District Attorney Angela Albers faces Jodi Cox for the two-year unexpired term, and Constable Gary Dixon faces John McQueen.

Other incumbents who have filed for reelection include Prec. 1 Constable Steve Bowser, Prec. 2 Constable Kelly Smith and Prec. 1 Commissioner Virgil Holland Jr.

Wood County’s state representative, Cole Hefner, and state senator, Bryan Hughes, have also filed for reelection as has State Board of Education representative  Kevin Ellis.

Other positions up for grabs include county tax assessor-collector, commissioner Prec. 3 and constable Prec. 4.

No Democrats had filed locally as of Monday.

Filing deadline is Dec. 9.
