Candlelight prayer held in Quitman in reaction to mass shootings

Sarah King, a local attorney, speaks during a candlelight prayer service with a small group of citizens in front of the Wood County Courthouse in Quitman on Monday night. After the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio, over the weekend, King organized the prayer through an announcement on social media. A total of 22 people were killed in El Paso and 10, including the gunman, were killed in Dayton. The group prayed and a few people spoke about the need to have hope, work together and improve care for those with mental illness. “What happened over the weekend it could have been any of us. We’ve got to have hope, faith and love,” King said. (Monitor photo by Zak Wellerman)
