Caring & Sharing kicks off 2018 season with spaghetti fundraiser
Caring & Sharing has been part of Mineola and its residents since 1983. Over the past 35 years, through much growth and many changes, Caring & Sharing now helps close to 300 families in need with food, filled stockings and toys at Christmas.
This effort takes a lot of planning, fundraising and participation from this generous community. And this small town never disappoints its neighbors.
The first fundraiser of the season takes place this Thursday, Nov. 1 at St. Paul’s Missionary Baptist Church (304 S. Stone St.) with a Spaghetti Luncheon prepared by the ladies of St. Paul and sponsored by The Ministerial Alliance of Mineola and the kind donations of St. Paul’s congregation. Tickets are $8 at the door. All proceeds go directly to Caring & Sharing.
Saturday, Nov. 3 will be the KMOO Radio Auction from 8 a.m. – noon. Local businesses and private citizens have been donating items to the auction for many weeks. Tonya Slayton of KMOO has so graciously given of her time and resources through KMOO to make this happen for the benefit of the children and families of Mineola. Tune in to 99.9 FM on Saturday, Nov. 3 to bid on items that will appear in today’s copy of the Wood County Monitor.
Caring & Sharing will also be raffling off three $200 gift cards to Brookshire’s on Dec. 8. Raffle ticket sales will begin on Saturday, Oct. 27 inside the Brookshire’s front doors and go through the month of November ending on Dec. 8. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Stockings are now being dispersed into the community via local churches and businesses to be filled for a specific child. If you are interested in filling a stocking, please contact Elaine Johnson at 903 768-2941.
Caring & Sharing has an on-going fundraiser through our Aluminum Can Drive. If you are not already donating your aluminum, there is a receptacle for donating behind Brookshire’s.
A lot is going on between now and the distribution date of Saturday, Dec. 15, and there are many ways to become involved with this very important and rewarding tradition in Mineola. Come out and get involved. You won’t regret it. For more information, please contact Project Chair George Assaf at 903-569-6553 or 903-520-6699.
