Funeral services for Cecil Lamar Moody, 94, were Friday, Feb. 15 at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola.

Mr. Moody died Feb. 12, 2019, after a long battle with dementia.

He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Golden.

He graduated from high school in Golden in 1942 and attended East Texas State on a basketball scholarship. On Sept. 11, 1944, he married Gloria Lea Hendrix. They moved to Houston, where he worked in the shipyards until he was drafted into the Army.

After the death of Gloria in 1984, Cecil married Jean Cotham and gained four more children. They loved to go dancing, travel and spend time with family and friends. Both loved to work in their yard, which always looked pristine.

Mr. Moody was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mineola and sang in the Men’s Choir. He was an avid quail hunter and loved to hunt and train his dogs.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Birdie Moody; four brothers: Bernice, Herman, Ferrell and Willie Joe; four sisters: Vivian, Ruby Lee, Betty Mae and Wilda; and his wife Gloria and second wife, Jean.

He is survived by his children, Sharon Greer, John Moody, Larry Cotham, Cindy Haynes, Jimmy Cotham, and JoAnn Cotham; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, (CAF) or Sands Springs Cemetery, where Cecil was president of the board.
