Celebrating Veterans Day
The Marine Corps League Mineola Detachment, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts hosted the annual Veterans Day parade in downtown Mineola on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The parade stepped off from Broad and Graham Streets at 11:11 a.m., in tribute to the signing time of the Armistice that ended World War One on Nov. 11, 1918, which later became Veterans Day.
Grand marshalls were Dr. James Melott, Jr., U.S. Navy Seabee/U.S. Army paratrooper, U.S. Marine TAD attached and Mrs. Barbara C. Melott, BS.N RN, PHN, U.S. Navy hospital corsman.
Marching bands from Mineola, Alba-Golden and Hawkins high schools provided beats and tunes, including service songs such as "The Army Goes Rolling Along."
