Charles David Mabus, 68, of Mineola passed away peacefully on the morning of Nov. 5, 2022. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 12 at New Hope Baptist Church in Mineola.

David was born to Charles and Elouise Mabus on June 11, 1954 in Mineola. He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Hass, Heather Radla and Kaylee Burge; his step-mother, Bertie Mabus of Mineola; two sisters, Sandra Mabus and Susan Mabus; brother, Darrell Touchton of Idaho; many grandchildren; and many more friends.

At age 17, David took up boxing. He was instantly hooked. Not only was he in love with the sport itself, but also the lessons he learned along the way. Boxing taught him discipline and respect, both of which remained with him long after his boxing career of over 10 years. David fought in the Texas Golden Gloves tournament, winning many awards as a competitor, one of which was the number one contender in Texas for 1979.

As if boxing wasn’t enough, another of David’s passions was riding his motorcycle. The ultimate man’s man. He knew how to have fun and chase adrenaline. He could often be seen on his Harley, cruising around town or on a backroad, truly enjoying life.

David had many nicknames, but most knew him as “Old Bob.” His antics were legendary. He knew no stranger, and many in fact have their own personal stories to tell. For those who knew him most, know that he loved life and lived it to the fullest. He lived with compassion and heart. His laugh could be heard from all around. David loved spending time with his family and enjoyed entertaining with his comedy and singing. A kid at heart, David was genuine, never changing who he was. Above everything else, David had a love of God like no other. Every chance he could, David would share his faith. The Lord used David’s unique personality to witness to the world, touching and changing many lives along the way.

David was loved by most and will be missed by many. May we rest easy knowing that he is home with The Father, his joyful laugh echoing through the streets of gold.
