Classrooms, gym part of Alba-Golden $16 million bond
Alba-Golden ISD voters are being asked to provide $16 million for school improvements Saturday. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Three main projects are included in the bond package:
1. A classroom addition for the elementary campus, to include at least six and up to eight classrooms and related facilities.
2. A competition gym that can also serve as two practice courts when movable bleachers are rolled back.
3. Renovations to the career and technical education facilities.
The projects are estimated at $17 million, and school trustees voted to dedicate $1 million from the district’s fund balance toward the projects.
The impact on the district’s property tax rate is projected to be just under 32 cents per $100 valuation to a rate of $1.316.
A chart on the district’s website shows the impact on a $100,000 home at $40 per year and $357 per year for a $200,000 home.
Those whose school taxes have been frozen would see no impact, such as over 65 years old.
The CTE programs to be impacted by the facility improvements include animal science, construction science, health science, horticulture, welding and floral design.
The gym would seat 800 spectators and include two boys and two girls locker rooms, coaches offices, large entry foyer, concession area, restrooms and support spaces.
The elementary classes would be connected by a corridor to the current campus and be located on the northeast corner of the campus.
The gym site is not determined but one possibility is on the east side of the campus, just southeast of the new ag facility.
