Deputy William Burge was dispatched to CR 3820 to assist Upshur County in a follow-up investigation that was being conducted at a residence. Upon arrival, Burge found that Upshur County investigators had an unknown male subject detained and was advised that the man had been untruthful when asked for identifying information. The man, who told investigators his first name was Chris, claimed he had never been arrested. Through the use of identifying tattoos, the man was discovered to be Chase Lee Cutler, 28, of Hawkins. He was subsequently arrested for failure to identify and was transported to jail without incident.

Deputy Kelly Smith was dispatched to a burglary call on CR 1695. The homeowners advised they had some roofing work done on their house a week prior and according to the man he was inside the home when the work was being done but believed one of the workers gained access to the home and stole jewelry valued at over $2,500 from the master bedroom. Also missing was approximately $300 worth of fishing equipment from a boat which was located inside the garage. The woman was able to provide a photo of some of the jewelry. This case is now in the hands of an investigator.

Deputy Justin Wallis and Sgt. William Burge were dispatched to the rest stop area on FM 2088 for an assault that had just occurred. The deputies were informed that the female suspect would be walking down the highway but were unable to locate her. Speaking with the complainant, deputies learned the woman was struck in the wrist while driving when her daughter, the passenger, became upset and began lashing out. The suspect left the area on foot after the complainant stopped at the roadside park. The woman stated she did wish to pursue criminal charges for the assault. The case is now in the hands of an investigator.

Deputy Justin Wallis took a report of forgery of a financial instrument from an employee of the Yantis Federal Credit Union who stated she had discovered a check she had written to pay the electric bill had apparently been intercepted and altered in order to be cashed by a female subject with a Lindale address. Wallis obtained a copy of the check and the case was forwarded for additional investigation.

Deputy Dustin Moffett took a report of burglary of a building from a complainant on FM 778 who stated that someone had taken a red metal tool box full of Husky brand tools from a building on his property sometime in the past five days. The value of the missing tools is $600. There were no signs of forced entry but according to the owner, the door's locking mechanism is not well made and may have allowed entry into the building. This case was forwarded to CID.

Deputy Aaron Warren took a report of burglary of a vehicle at a residence on CR 2147. According to the complainant, he found the driver's side door open on his pickup and discovered several items missing from inside including two ratchet sets and a Dewalt screw gun. The truck's door had markings consistent with it having been pried open. A travel trailer at the location which is used only for storage sustained damage as well. Although the main door of the trailer bore evidence someone had attempted to pry it open, entry was not gained. This case has been turned over to an investigator.

Deputy Aaron Warren took a report of illegal dumping from a complainant with property on FM 14. According to the man, a friend of his asked permission to dump some trash on his property from a mobile home he was tearing down. The landowner declined to give the man permission but later returned to find the friend had dumped the debris on his land anyway. Warren took photographs at the location and the case was forwarded to CID for review.

Sgt. Tim Baucom took a report of an assault from a complainant on FM 852 who stated she had arrived at her ex-husband's house to drop off children for visitation and was attacked by the ex's girlfriend. A quick check of the woman revealed no signs that she had been assaulted. Baucom next spoke with the girlfriend who stated it was she who was attacked by the ex-wife when she arrived to drop off the children. Baucom noted the girlfriend had injuries consistent with having been assaulted. Sarah Eliza Courtney-Mesko, 39, of Winnsboro was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury.

Deputy James Hildebrand took a report of burglary of a building from a complainant on PR 8692 who stated sometime in the past week, unknown person(s) cut a lock off his storage building and stole multiple carpentry tools. A water heater and an 18 foot double axel trailer with black wheels were also taken. This case has been assigned to an investigator.

Deputy Brad Cates was dispatched to a residence on CR 3450 for a disturbance. A man at the location stated he had been struck three times with a belt in the chest and back by his mother during an argument over a leaf blower. According to the victim, his mother left the residence after the assault and was currently at a residence on CR 3448. Cates made contact with the woman, who was still extremely upset and she was also unable to tell him what had transpired at the residence. A witness to the assault corroborated the victim's version of events. Jacquelyn Delise Wesley, 44, of Hawkins was arrested and charged with assault class C. She was transported to jail without incident.

Deputy Kevin Atkinson was dispatched to a residence on CR 4591 in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated he had returned home from work and observed signs that a burglary had occurred including a broken rear bedroom window, and sliding glass doors which had been removed from their frame allowing access to the home's interior. Items missing from inside the home include collectible coins, knives and stamps as well as a large telescope on a tripod, with a combined value of over $1,500. Items of evidentiary value were collected from the scene and have been forwarded to CID for continued investigation.

Deputy Kelly Smith took a theft report from man on CR 3600 who stated several items, including an air conditioning unit, a thermostat, firearms and copper wiring were stolen from him by an air conditioning contractor. Smith contacted the air conditioning contractor who stated an air conditioner and thermostat had been repossessed due to a large outstanding sum of money owed by the ranch, of which the complainant is the manager. When asked to provide a complete list of missing items, the complainant stated he could not confirm any items missing other than the air conditioner and thermostat. The man was advised to contact the Sheriff's Office if any other items were confirmed missing. This case was closed.

Sgt. Josh O'Grady obtained two additional warrants for a suspect in an ongoing harassment case. During a follow up investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had not ceased contact with the victim and had, in fact, committed more offenses.

Sgt. O'Grady has identified several suspects in numerous thefts and burglaries in the Winnsboro area. Warrants are expected soon pending the conclusion of the investigation. Related to these cases, a four wheeler was recovered in Camp County.

Sgt. O'Grady also located a vehicle stolen out of the Winnsboro area in a neighboring county however, the case is still under investigation and efforts are being made to identify suspects in the case.
