Wood County commissioners took care of a few annual items at Tuesday morning’s meeting. 

Commissioners approved meeting dates for the upcoming year as well as county holidays, payroll dates, sheriff’s and constable’s fees.

Commissioners take care of annual items

Wood County commissioners took care of a few annual items at Tuesday morning’s meeting. 

Commissioners approved meeting dates for the upcoming year as well as county holidays, payroll dates, sheriff’s and constable’s fees. They also approved classification and departmental compensation schedules.

Commissioners acknowledged the setting of county auditor, assistant county auditors and court reporter as approved by 402nd District Judge Brad McCampbell. County Auditor Terri Sellars’ salary was set at $98,324; court reporter Jana Rushing $80,722; first assistant Daphne Carter $26.15 per hour; assistant auditor Tammy Kelbe $23.54 per hour; assistant auditor Alicia Derdyn $23.06 per hour and  Stephanie Tidwell $23.06; and assistant auditor Misty Goldman $22.69 per hour.

Commissioners approved a resolution to discontinue use of K-9 Deputy Major. The canine officer’s partner has resigned from the sheriff’s department, and the dog had ongoing health problems. The canine has been returned to K9officers.com in Houston.

A public hearing was set Oct. 19 at the request of the Wood County Economic Development Commission to adopt guidelines and criteria for granting a tax abatement within the reinvestment zone for commercial and industrial tax abatement in Wood County. 

A pauper’s burial was approved for a United States disabled military veteran who was found deceased in his home in Mineola. The sheriff’s department and indigent health administrator Sandy Cabe exhausted all means of finding relatives to claim responsibility for the man. Through a military contact ETMS Tyler will accept the body for cremation.

Commissioners approved the sale of a mixer to Van Zandt County for $5,000.

Commissioners approved the sale of four properties for tax resale in Mineola. One valued at $3,400 was sold for $7,001 while another, valued at $4,050 also sold for $7,001. The remaining properties sold for $500 on property valued at $4,200 and a $1,001 bid was approved on a property valued at $3,120.  

Public hearings on were set for Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. for the revision of lots at two Holly Lake Ranch properties. The revision of lots 269, 270, and 271, section 8 at Holly Lake Ranch and in a separate action the revision of lots 297 and 298, section 8 also at Holly Lake Ranch were approved. The revision of lots 13 and 14 at Bluff Ranch Subdivision at Lake Fork was also approved. 

A presentation by UT Health Quitman CEO Jared Smith was postponed until the next meeting.
