Community Thanksgiving meals and services planned

Quitman First Baptist Church gets the early jump on Thanksgiving dinners. The church, located at 301 E. Lane Street, is having a free dinner and open house Saturday, Nov. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It will be a come and go affair for the whole family with activities and games for all ages to enjoy. There will be 42 domino games, corn hole and ping pong as well as nice door prizes given away.

The church is also providing transportation for those who don’t have a ride to the church. For information or to get a ride call 903-763-4142.  

Faith Baptist Church is having a community service and dinner on Sunday, Nov. 24 beginning at 6 p.m. 

The message will be delivered by Pastor David Cook of Myrtle Springs Baptist Church. Worship will be lead by Jarrod Yeager of Faith Baptist Church. Pastor Ken Otwell of First Assembly of God, Pastor Keefe Cropper of First United Methodist Church and Pastor David Hartley of Living Waters Fellowship will also have roles in the service.

A special offering for the Caring and Sharing Food Pantry will be taken to help the ministry continue to serve the community. 

Yantis

The Yantis-Lake Fork Lions Club will be hosting its 15th Annual Free Thanksgiving Meal for the community. The event will take place in the Yantis ISD Cafeteria on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, Nov. 28 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. There will be a traditional Thanksgiving meal including turkey and ham with all the trimmings.

The Yantis-Lake Fork Lions hosts this luncheon as a service to the community for those who may be alone during this holiday. Come and share a delicious meal and good fellowship. There is no reservation needed and no charge for the meal. However, donations are always welcome.

Mineola

The Mineola Ministerial Alliance will host a community Thanksgiving service Sunday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. The message will be delivered by The Right Reverend Fraser W. Lawton of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church.

First United Methodist Church is having its annual Thanksgiving Day lunch at the Ministry Center at 612 Newsom Street. Lunch will be served on Nov. 28 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Lunch is free but donations are accepted. Bring the family for fellowship and food. All volunteers are welcome.

Winnsboro 

The 10th Annual Richie’s Thanksgiving dinner will be served at their location in Winnsboro at 301 East Coke Road. The free dinner will be served on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Although the dinners are free to everyone, donations are accepted and the money each year is given to someone in the community who is in need. Also each year, Richie’s employees donate their pay on Thanksgiving Day to the beneficiaries.

This year in Winnsboro there are three recipients including two-year-old Caston Stewart who has been diagnosed with stage three neuroblastoma. He has already endured two surgeries and four rounds of chemotherapy.

The second recipient is Brenda Ratzliff-Lester, a Winnsboro resident who was diagnosed with endometrial uterine cancer.   

The third recipient is a father and son who have both lost the use of their legs. The father, Vicente Reyes, was in a car accident earlier this year his son, Jose Reyes, lost both legs to diabetes. They are in need of a handicap-accessible driveway.

The Richie’s in Grand Saline at 204 North Green St. (Hwy. 80) is also having a free dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
