The annual Christmas Tour of Homes is this Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $10 and there are three properties to visit. The City of Mineola Landmark Commission sponsors the tour with the Mineola Junior Historians assisting the commission for the 19th consecutive year.

The 111-year-old Mineola Depot at 115 East Front Street will be featured along with Doyle and Kathryn Barlow’s home at 189 County Road 2906 at Lake Holbrook and David and Dayna Sadler’s new business, The Venues, at 301 Sycamore Street.

The Barlow house was built in 1972 by the Doyles. The original 47 acres was bought by Kathryn Barlow’s father Henry D. Speights and his father Henry Sr. in early 1940. During the next three years, three more parcels of land were bought bringing the total acreage on the Speights Farm to 124 acres. Following the Barlow’s wedding, Kathryn’s father gave them land to build their home on as a wedding gift.

There are several family pieces in the house including a kitchen dinette that was purchased in the late 1930’s from Kitchen’s when it was a hardware/furniture store and a bedroom set about 114 years old given to Kathryn’s grandmother on her wedding day.

The Venues on Sycamore is a new business started by David and Dayna Sadler. The venue hosts three separate business; the Painting Place owned by Sadler herself; the Shop, a hair salon owned by Stephanie Sadler; and the Gem, an exercise studio owned by Melissa Cartan.

The venues are available for event rentals with patio occupancy of 100 people and the venue itself can accommodate 175 people.

“The overall vision is for Mineola to have a gathering place where memories and good times are had,” said Venue owner Dayna Sadler.
