Contract awarded to Mize by MISD

Cody Mize, lone finalist for the Mineola ISD superintendent position, was approved for a contract unanimously by the MISD School Board on Friday morning.

Mize is working with the Winona school district, where he has served as superintendent three years, on transition plans and expects to start in Mineola Jan. 24.

Mize, a Mineola native, has served education posts in Alba-Golden and Quitman. He was selected from among 45 applicants.

He has been an educator 14 years and also serves as pastor of Cartwright Baptist Church in Wood County.

Mize will replace Kim Tunnell, who resigned in August after five years with the district. Randy Hancock has been serving as interim.

Mize’s contract is for four and a half years, through June 2024, and calls for an annual salary of $150,000. He also receives a $10,000 stipend as the fiscal agent for the Wood County special education cooperative.

He is also required to reside within the district and receives benefits of travel reimbursement outside the district and professional organization dues up to $1,000 per year.

The contract may be viewed on the MISD website [pdf].
