Controlled burns planned to assist turkey population

A prescribed burn will take place this week in conjunction with Mill Creek Farm to aid with an active Wild Turkey stocking program.

Monday through Wednesday there will be controlled burning of approximately 800 acres locally. Wood County Fire Marshall Tully Davidoson wants the public to be aware of the burning near Farm-to-Market 2869 and Highway 154 that burnings will take place regularly and will create smoke in the area.

The burn out is being used to help remove underbrush in the woods and provide more green grass to grow which creates a better turkey habitat.
