County gains benefits from ET Council of Governments
The East Texas Council of Governments reported the regional council’s impact for 2020 on Wood County recently, which included services to thousands of residents and grants and spending topping $1 million.
While ETCOG’s assistance aided cities and the county in obtaining grants totaling $835,000, childcare assistance through the Texas Workforce Commission saw direct spending of $658,000 for eligible families to help parents maintain employment.
ETCOG spending on the 911 emergency calling system totaled $36,000.
Assistance was offered to job seekers and employers 971 times through Workforce Solutions of East Texas.
Some 668 seniors received services through the Area Agency on Aging, which included Meals on Wheels which served Wood County seniors 34,836 plates during the year.
Training was offered to 64 county law enforcement officers through the council.
The bulk of the grants included $275,000 for a Community Development Block Grant for the county, a $256,472 Homeland Security grant for the city of Mineola and a $224,118 Homeland Security grant for the county.
