The Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center held its Wood County Memorandum of Understanding signing on April 28.

This agreement is signed by the Wood County Sheriff, police chiefs, the District Attorney, County Judge and Child Protective Services officials. This agreement signifies the coordination of investigation and prosecution of child perpetrators with agency partners and the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center while decreasing trauma for the child.

The Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center began in 1998 and currently serves Camp, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Rains, Titus, Wood and Upshur Counties. Since its beginning, the center has seen over 6,500 children and provided service to thousands of other secondary victims of abuse.

All services provided at the center are free of charge to the victims and their non-offending family members as a result of community support through donations and fundraisers along with grants. The center provides videotaped forensic interviews, counseling, forensic exams, crisis counseling, court testimony, case tracking, team staffing, training, coordination with other social agencies for client assistance and public edu- cation on child abuse awareness.

As a proactive approach, the center also provides parent education classes and parent support groups to strengthen families in their core values and patterns of rearing children. As an accredited organization of Parents Anonymous , National Children's Alliance and the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas, the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center strives to promote the best practices in community child abuse advocacy and prevention. Anyone interested in volunteering at the center can contact Jennifer Williams at 903-629- 7588.
