Funeral services for Dorothy M. Thorton, 93, of Winnsboro, were held April 5, 2016 at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Bro. Danny Suiter, Bro. Dan Hubbell and Bro. Scott Darby officiating.

Burial was held at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Winnsboro. Mrs. Thorton passed away April 2, 2016 in Winnsboro.

She was born September 14, 1922 in Slocum to the late Hamilton West and Nancy Emmie Ball West. She was a homemaker, a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and the WMA’s at Smyrna Baptist Church

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Henry Glen Thornton; sisters, Stella O’Neal, Hattie Webb, Gladys West Creager, Beulah Fletcher, Ozetta Hobson; two brothers, Roscoe West, Willie West; grandchildren, Michael Thornton, Renee Jones; and great-grandson, Preston Thornton.

Survivors include son, Jerry Thornton and Katie of Winnsboro; daughters, Fonda Hawk and Raymond of Daingerfield, Patricia Carnagey and David of Greenville; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Heartsway Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
