Couple marks 50th anniversary

Errol and Kay Barber celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 5, 2020.

Errol and Kay met at the Pickwick at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, where Kay served food and Errol came to hang out. They got married in the church chapel Jan. 5, 1970.

Barbara Kay Blackwood Barber was born in Santa Monica, Calif. July 1, 1947.

She graduated from Texas Tech with a math degree.

Errol Brown Barber was born in Tyler Dec. 8, 1945.

After graduating from SMU with a mechanical engineering degree he worked for Ford Motor Company.  

They moved to Mineola in 1977 and Errol opened his own parts store, Green Light, later Parts Plus, and he owned it for 18 years before he retired at age 52.

Errol and Kay have two daughters, Koni Riley and Kristi Hipke. They have five grandchildren, triplets Kapri, Keilee and Kozbie and Savannah and Charleston.

They have stayed busy with activities, traveling and grandchildren.  

Kay participates in clogging and line dancing and is involved in a bible study group. She enjoys outdoor adventures such as hiking, exploring and riding 4-wheelers.

Errol is involved with Gideons and speaks to churches. He still likes to work on cars,  play on his tractor and enjoys doing acts of service for his daughters and grand kids. 

They are a members of the First Baptist Church in Mineola  and members of a Model A Club. They also like to travel. They spend summers in Lake City, Colo. and take several trips each year with their friends.
